Mega Diancie is unique in that it is one of the few special-attacking Rock types that are not just viable, but incredibly powerful. Its has 160 stats on both sides of the attacking spectrum, as well as respectable 110 speed and a decent ability in Magic Guard. However, unlike other Megas where you can just fire it off immediately without any thought, keeping Diancie as regular for a turn before Mega Evolving is not just optimal, but flat out ESSENTIAL to secure kills for it that it might miss otherwise thanks to the regular form's incredible 150 defenses. Diamond storm and Moonblast are the obvious STAB attacks, especially the former as it can still increase Defense even in Hardcore. Earth Power is there for coverage against Steels. Rock Tomb may seem like a random inclusion, but it is in fact a specific and highly necessary tech choice. It is often necessary to Rock Tomb an enemy mon as normal Diancie to slow the enemy down and take advantage of Diancie's incredible bulk before Megaing and going in the for the kill. This is a necessary option against mons like Mega Rayquaza and HC champ's Koraidon, who it can potentially lose to otherwise. Mega Diancie requires a bit of finesse and timing to make the most out of it, but it can be a very powerful Mega on the battlefield if one exercises just a little bit of patience to wield its power.
