Description
Heliolisk is one of the few Pokémon to have Solar Power as an Ability, and it (as well as its pre-evolution) is the only Electric/Normal-type to have it. What's interesting about Solar Power in RR is that unlike in the mainline games, it doesn't make a Pokémon lose 1/8 of its HP at the end of each turn like it usually does, acting as a built-in Choice Specs when under the sun minus the drawback of being limited to one move, and that cannot be ignored. What's more, if we're not counting Mega Houndoom, Heliolisk is the fastest Pokémon with Solar Power. This gives it the potential to be a deceptively powerful threat when the sun is out. Parabolic Charge is a great move to have since it's adequately strong, and it gives Heliolisk a reliable recovery option. Plus, it can learn it surprisingly early either as a Helioptile at Level 25 or as a Heliolisk through the Move Relearner. Boomburst is its strongest STAB option, and it is an essential move to have once you get it. With how late you get it, though, Hyper Voice can act as a solid alternative for the time being. The third move can be anything you want, but Grass Knot is there to deal with any Ground-types. Finally, Volt Switch is there as a good pivot option when faced with a matchup Heliolisk doesn't fare well against. A Life Orb will allow Heliolisk to hit harder even when the sun isn't out, and with Parabolic Charge, it's capable of keeping itself healthy while the Life Orb is equipped. Both of Misty's teams stand no chance against this thing, especially when the sun is out, and any Pokémon that doesn't resist Normal is more than likely going to get KO'd with a solid Boomburst, two tops. So overall, while it may be overlooked by most, Heliolisk is capable of holding its own on a sun team as a small but very capable powerhouse.
