Description

With the new addition to Tinted Lens as its Hidden Ability, a boost to its Special Attack, and availability as early as the battle against Brock, Flygon can make a solid member to anyone's team due to its versatility as a physical or special attacker. Here, we'll show what it can do as the latter role. Sandsear Storm will be its strongest Ground-type STAB on the special side with an added bonus of having the chance to burn, which can help against physical attackers. For Dragon-type STAB, Draco Meteor is your best bet, but with how late you get it, you can run Dragon Pulse until then. Flamethrower or Fire Blast will make for a good hip-check against any Ice-types that pose a serious problem for Flygon, especially with its 4x weakness to them. While it's not advised to bring Flygon out against an Ice-type due to its middling Defenses, if you must do it, then either one of these moves will be your best friend, whether you want more accuracy or more power respectively. Finally, U-Turn is there as a good pivot move as always to help out of a bad matchup. I went with the Expert Belt, so that no matter what move it uses, Flygon will be doing some serious damage, whether it's taking advantage of Tinted Lens or a super effective hit -- though a Choice Specs can work for this set, too, if you feel obliged. With all this together, Flygon can do incredibly well against the likes of Brock, Surge, Erika, Koga, Blaine, and Clair, among a few others. So overall, with this set, Flygon can basically play as a Dragapult Lite, except replacing Ghost with Ground. Not like that's a bad thing due to how early you can get a Trapinch and how useful it'll be for anyone's team thanks to said Ground-typing.
